J-LAFが目指すもの

NPO法人ジャパン・レターアーツ・フォーラム (J-LAF ジェイラフ）は、カリグラフィーを軸とした日本におけるレターアーツ（文字芸術）の芸術性向上ならびに、レターアーツを介した海外との文化交流を目指し、その支援と交流を推し進めていく非営利団体として2008年2月に設立されました（2014年9月にNPO法人化）。

カリグラフィーを含む現在の日本のレターアーツが、芸術の一翼を担うものとして広く認知され、社会の中で役割を持つ存在となること、そして世界の文字芸術の発展に貢献できる団体となることを目標として活動しています。

J-LAFの活動

• カリグラフィーが、書やデザインの世界のみならず一般社会の中で広く認識され、理解されるよう普及活動に努めます。
• 海外とのネットワークを生かして、世界で活躍するアーティストをワークショップやレクチャー等のイベントに招聘し、国内外の文字芸術の発展に貢献できる人材を育成していきます。
• 日本人の持つ美意識や深い文化的背景が、文字の芸術性発展に寄与する機会を設け、国際交流を行います。
• ウェブサイトや国内外のレターアーツ情報誌を通してJ-LAFの活動を発表し、レターアーツに関わる様々な情報を紹介します。

J-LAFが考えるレターアーツとは

レターアーツ（文字芸術）とは、カリグラフィー、書道、タイポグラフィー、レターカッティングなど、言葉の種類や手書きか否かを問わず、また形式や媒体にも制約がない、文字を芸術的なレベルにまで高めたアート全般を指します。

Goals of J-LAF

Aiming to enhance the value of letter arts based on Western calligraphy in Japan and to pursue international cultural exchange through letter arts, Non-Profit Organization Japan Letter Arts Forum(J-LAF) was established in 2008 as a non-profit organization (approved for non-profit status in September 2014).

J-LAF aims to play an active role in seeing letter arts, which includes Western calligraphy, in Japan to become widely recognized as having a share in the art field and take on a role in the society. It aspires to contribute to the development of letter arts worldwide.

Activities of J-LAF

• J-LAF will endeavor to promote Western calligraphy to become widely recognized and appreciated in not only Japanese calligraphy and design field, but also among the general public.
• Taking advantage of its international network, J-LAF will invite inspiring artists for lectures or workshops in order to nurture human resources who will contribute to the advancement of letter arts.
• J-LAF will foster international exchange and create opportunities for aesthetics and deep cultural background of the Japanese people to contribute to the advancement of letter arts.
• J-LAF will introduce diverse information on letter arts by announcing its activities on its website and in publications on letter arts in Japan and worldwide.

J-LAF's Definition of Letter Arts

Letter arts refer to art of letters taken to high artistic level, including calligraphy, typography, letter cutting, etc., in any language, handwritten or not, without restrictions in form or medium.
